Amtrak's The Cardinal stops at Staunton's railroad station three times per week in each direction on its route between Washington, DC and Chicago. You can catch Amtrak's The Cardinal at Washington, DC's Union Station on a Sunday, Wednesday or Friday morning, arriving in Staunton that afternoon. You can return to Washington on a Wednesday, Friday or Sunday afternoon, leaving Staunton and arriving at Union Station that evening. What a perfect getaway!
